The company originated in 1945 from humble beginnings as a three man team working out of an old horse barn in the community of Barrie, Ontario. In 1955, a new industrial location was purchased and outfitted with more modern equipment to meet the needs of a growing city and area. By 1974, the original owners were ready for retirement and sold the business to four current employees. By that time, the shop had grown tenfold and employed 30 staff members. The new ownership group envisioned the company as a unique “one-stop-shop” and set about making that vision a reality. Today, Barrie Welding & Machine (1974) Ltd facilities cover an entire city block, roughly 250,000 square feet, and employs a team of over 230 extremely skilled staff. These skills, combined with the cutting edge equipment found within our shops, has permitted the company to reach the goal of being one of the most well rounded jobbing shops in North America. We now service a diverse range of clientele from almost all sectors of the economy and on a global scale.
