Barrie Welding & Machine
had its origin in 1945 when it was initially started as a three-man
shop operated out of a horse barn
near downtown Barrie. The company experienced a steady growth
and by 1955 had outgrown its original location. The business
relocated to Anne Street in Barrie where it continues to operate
today.

In 1974, after almost
thirty years in business, the original owners were ready to retire.
A group of four employees formed a partnership to purchase the
company and Barrie Welding & Machine (1974) Ltd. was born.
"Barrie Welding" as it
is known in short by those in the industry has always been a
service-based company, and as such the new owners were eager to
develop the service available to their customers. In a program
of continuous growth and development, Barrie Welding improved and
enlarged its base services of welding and machining but also
branched out into new areas.
The company formed
several completely new divisions including a large press repair
facility, a CNC machine shop, an automation house, a coil handling
technology department, and a design department. Two sister
companies, Western Mechanical and Western Hydraulics, were also
established. Because of their desire to better service their
customers, Barrie Welding has become one of the largest "one stop
jobbing shops" in Ontario.
